When owner is not present, dogs are more likely to be more cooperative
How to remove a small/large dog from a cage
Small dog: get dogs attention to front of cage and use one hand/ arm over the dog’s back, then scoop ventral aspect of the chest. Hold dog snuggly against chest. Keep control of the head and do not let dog jump out.
Large dog: call dog to front of cage, open cage and place on leg against door, then place slip leash around neck. Encourage dog out of cage after
When do you use slip leash or capture pole?
Slip leashes are needed for any dog, yet when there’s an aggressive dog, a capture pole should be used
How to place small/large dog in cage
Large dog: walk dog to cage and do not pull or drag dog, gently guide them.
Small dog:
When doing standing restraint should your hands always be on the patient?
Yes, at least one hand should be and never walk away from a dog on the exam table
