Q

How do you calculate units for Kc

A
For a reaction aA + bB ⇌ cC + dD
Kc = [C]^c [D]^d
       -----------------
        [A]^a [B]^b
Its moles of products over moles of reactants with the balancing numbers as powers, but if asked for concentration divide the equilibrium moles by the volume given.

Q

What is Le Chatelier’s principle?

A

If a system in equilibrium is subjected to a change, process will occur that tend to counteract the change imposed.

Q

Increasing temperature for an

  • Exothermic
  • Endothermic

Decreasing temperature for an

  • Exothermic
  • Endothermic
A

Increase
Exothermic - Position of equilibrium to the left, Kc decreases
Endothermic - Position of equilibrium to the right, Kc increases

Decrease
Exothermic - Position of equilibrium to the right
Endothermic - Position of equilibrium to the left
