equilibrium Flashcards
le chatliers principle
if a reaction at equilibrium is subjected to change in pressure, temp, conc, the position of equilibrium will move to counteract the change
adding catalyst
catalyst have no effect on position of equilibrium
will speed up backward and forward reactions equally
changing pressure
if we increase pressure the equilibrium shifts to reduce the pressure
the side with less gas particles
changing conc.
if we increase/ decrease the conc. of reactant OR product equilibrium will shift and try reduce the conc.
side with less/ more moles
changing temperature
increase in temperature equilibrium will shift to reduce temp
shifts in the endothermic direction
equilibrium constant (kc)
[C][D][A][B]
reversible reactions
reactions that go back and forth
forward reaction
reactants are used up quickly but slows as conc. drops
backward reaction
reactants are reformed slowly but speeds when conc. increases
dynamic equilibrium
forward rate and backwards rate are equal
