Equilibrium Flashcards
Ke
Equilibrium constant
K values
K > 1 = far to the right (favours products)
K < 1 = far to the left (favours reactants)
K = 1 = equilibrium [ ] of the products is similar to that of reactants
Dynamic equilibrium
Balance between forward and reverse process occurring at the same rate
Forward rxn
Left to right rxn
Reverse rxn
Right to left rxn
Chemical rxn
A dynamic equilibrium between reactants and products of a chemical reactant in a closed system
Dissolution
The process of dissolving
Qualitative rxn
rxn in which virtually all of the limiting reagent is consumed
Percent rxn
the yield of the product measured at equilibrium compared with max possible yield of products
Le Chateleirs Principle
When a system is subject to disturbance, the system counteracts the disturbance
stressing
adding product = favouring reactant
adding reactant = favouring products
remove reactant= favouring reactant
remove product = favouring product
Change in temperature
Increase in temp = will cause shift to the right
Decrease in temp = shift to the left
Addition to catalyst
It speeds up the rate of the forward rxn
No effect on equilibrium
Trial Quotient (Qt)
Ratio of products over reactant at a certain time of a rxn
