Equilbrium Flashcards
1
Q
What is a reversible reaction?
A
- A reaction that can take place both forwards and backwards
- Reactants can turn into products
- Products can turn into reactants
- Rate of forward and backward reaction can be different
2
Q
What does it mean when a reaction is at eqilibrium?
A
- The rate of the forward and backward reaction is the same
- Concentration of reactants and products stays constant
- Reaction is still happening, concentration stays the same
3
Q
What does the position of equlibrium tell us?
A
- The concentration of the side that equilbirium is on is higher
- E.G: if equilibrium lies on the right, then at equilibrium the concentration of products is higher than the concentration of reactants
4
Q
What is required for equilibrium to be reached?
A
- Reaction must be done in a closed system so no reactants / products can escape
5
Q
What is true about reversible reactions and change in energy?
A
- One of the reaction will always be endothermice and the other will be exothermic
- If forwards reaction is exothermic, the backwards reaction is endothermic
