equi Flashcards
what doesnt change in a closed system
the rate of the reverse reaction and the concentrations of reactants and products do not change
how does a catalyst affect the eqilibrium
IT DOESNTTTT
explanation that a catalyst increases the rate of both forward and reverse reactions in an equilibrium by the same amount resulting in an unchanged position of equilibrium
what is the effect on the system with a change in variable
the system readjusts to counteract the effect of the applied change
How does temp affect equi
FAVOURS ENDOTHERMIC REACTIONS
if the reaction is exothermic(-): then a increase in temp would move to reactants side. So you would need lower temperature so that you can produce more products.
If a reaction is endothermic: the you would need to Increase temperature
How does pressure affect equi
Favours side with fewer gaseous molecules
Some rules to changing pressure…
- Everything must be gaseous
- Must have different
number of molecules on
each side of equation
How does concentration affect equi ?
Increasing Concentration
Equilibrium will always shift to the opposite side of where concentration has been increased e.g increase reactants = increase in product
Decreasing Concentration
Equilibrium will always shift to the same side where concentration has been decreased. e.g decrease in products = decrease in prodcuts
if kc is less that 1 then it will be towards reactast side
how does change in vol affect equi
Changing the volume is much the same as changing pressure.
So a smaller volume has the same effect as raising the pressure.
And a higher volume has the effect of lowering the pressure.
