EQT 3 Radar -primary Flashcards
What does RADAR stand for
Radio Detection and Ranging
Primary radar uses reflected radio signals to work out how far away am a/c is. What equation does it use to measure distance of A/c
Distance = speed x time divided by 2
How long is a radar wavelength
1mm to 100cm
If a higher frequency has a shorter wavelength what does this mean for the range
Less range
What length wavelength does a primary approach radar use
3-10cm
What length wavelength do you need for a primary area radar
23-50cm
What are the 2 types of clutter
Ground clutter
Weather clutter
What is a PSR blip
The visual indication in non symbolic form on a situational display of the position of an a/c obtained by primary radar
What is a position indication
Visual indication on a situation display of the position of an a/c, AD, vehicle or other object
What is a position symbol
Visual indication in symbolic form on a situation display of the position of an aircraft aerodrome vehicle or other object obtained after automatic processing of positioned data derived from any source
What is a radar contact
The situation which exists when the radar position of a particular aircraft is seen and identified on a situation display.
What is radar control
Term used to indicate that radar derived information is employed directly in the provision of ATC service.
What is a situation display
An electronic display depicting the position and movement of an aircraft and other information as required
What must a primary radar be capable of doing
Transmission
Receive
Display
What does a modulator do
When triggered fires high power high voltage pulse to the transmitter
