EQ 2 - 1.8 Flashcards
State 4 stages of park model
- pre disaster
- relief (hours-days)
- rehabilitation (days-weeks)
- reconstruction (weeks-years)
What is resilience
Abilit to resist, cope adapt and then recover from natural hazards - measure of how efficiently resources can be deployed in reasonable time
What affects hazard response (8)
1) Nature of damage (liquefaction)
2) Quickness of event (bad timing)
3) Gov relationships with other countries
4) Structure of insurance business
5) availability of new tech, architects and builders
6) Speed of research and ease of engineering
7) Motivation of grass root stakeholders - protest or help?
8) amount of economic damage
Purpose of park’s model
Shows how quality of life changes over time after a hazard event; allows you to compare and assess how well places respond to hazard event
State details of the four stages in parks model
Refer to slide 10 of 1.3 walk in the park ppt or p18 in pearson
Give examples of geophysical hazards
earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions
Give examples of hydrological hazards
flooding, tsunamis, mudslides, droughts
Give examples of meterological/climatological hazards
coastal/beach erosion, coastal strom surge, sea level rise, thunderstorm, tornado, hurricane
Give examples of biological hazards
crop infestation and pestilence
