17
Q

Engine Restart During Flight Actions

A
  1. Throttle - OFF (10 seconds)

2. RPM - 12% min (18-20% ideal) 3. Battery - On

18
Q

Engine Restart During Flight Considerations

A
  1. Attempt a normal restart before an alternate airstart

2. You need DC power, fuel flow, and sufficient RPM for a proper airstart

19
Q

Generator Failure Analysis

A
  1. Master Caution
  2. L or R Gen Light
  3. Caution/Alert on MFD/HUD
20
Q

Generator Failure Actions

A
  1. Ensure engine is operating above RPM range of 43-48%
  2. Attempt to reset the failed generator
  3. Once clear the runway, shut down engine with failed generator after clearing the runway
21
Q

Generator Failure Considerations

A
  1. Don’t reset a generator more than once

2. If gen resets and you had good crossover, you can continue the mission

22
Q

MDP Failure Analysis

A
  1. Blank/abnormal data without an AVIONICS alert
  2. Blank HUD/UFCP
  3. Backup on MFD
  4. Auto activation of backup panels
23
Q

MDP Failure Actions

A
  1. Check MDP circuit breaker
  2. Turn MDP switch OFF then back ON
  3. Backup Control - BOTH, if system does not switch automatically
24
Q

MDP Failure Considerations

A
  1. VHF cannot be tuned (stays on last freq)
  2. Lose all MDP-generated alerts
  3. No TCAS
25
Q

Low Fuel Px/Fuel Leak (Boost pump) failure indications

A

FUEL PRESS annunciator - fuel pressure has dropped below 6 psi (normally 10)

26
Q

Low Fuel Px/Fuel Leak Considerations

A
  1. Consider shutting engine down due to a fuel leak because of fire danger
  2. Could be a phase failure or generator causing reduced boost pump output
27
Q

When to not crossfeed (BFLx3)

A
Boost pump inop,
fuel quantity failure,
leak in system,
low altitude,
low fuel state
28
Q

What are the indications of an oil pump shaft shear?

A

RPM indicates FAIL, Oil px indicates 0 simultaneously, T5 failure (EGT out of limits above 97%)

29
Q

Oil system malfunction indications

A

Oil px not within limits, or jumps more than 10 psi with a stabilized power setting

30
Q

Oil system malfunction considerations

A
  1. You can restart an engine for a critical phase of flight - use lowest RPM possible
  2. If you shut down right engine, check crossover. If bad, consider lowering 60% flaps and trimming for landing
31
Q

Airframe mounted gearbox failure indications

A

Simultaneous illumination of generator and hydraulic lights with hydraulic pressure at 0 psi

32
Q

Airframe mounted gearbox failure immediate actions

A

With vibrations, shut down engine immediately

33
Q

Airframe mounted gearbox failure cosiderations

A
  1. Don’t try to reset the generator
  2. No vibrations, good for engine
  3. Gearbox failure without crossover will freeze hydraulic gauge (even though actually 0)
34
Q

Gearbox failure to shift indications

A

Gen light on associated engine

35
Q

Gearbox failure to shift immediate actions

A

Move throttle to opposite side of shift range (65-75%)

36
Q

Gearbox failure to shift considerations

A
  1. If gearbox works in one range keep engine running in that range as long as practical 2. Clear the runway and shut down in EOR
37
Q

Alternate gear extension indications

A
  1. Loss of left engine hydraulics 2. Loss of DC power (dual TRU failure)
  2. Complete electrical failure
  3. Unsafe gear indications
38
Q

Alternate gear extension immediate actions

A
  1. Below 240
  2. Flaps - 60%
  3. Gear doors - open
  4. Gear Handle - DOWN
  5. Alt Gear Ext Handle - Pull (10 inches until gear unlocks)
39
Q

Alternate gear extension considerations

A
  1. Takes approximately 15-35 seconds
  2. No NWS
  3. Stop straight ahead, don’t clear runway (no downside hydraulics)
  4. Place gerar handle up then down again recycles downside hydraulic pressure on gear
40
Q

Compressor stall indications

A

“pop, bang or buzz” followed by rapid RPM drop and EGT rise (low altitude)

41
Q

Compressor stall immediate actions

A
  1. Retard throttle to idle
  2. press start button
  3. increase/decrease airspeed as necessary
  4. Abort mission even if engine recovers
42
Q

Compressor stall considerations

A
  1. Placing throttle in idle is an attempt to reduce engine airflow requirements
  2. If you shut down engine due to compressor stall, you may attempt a restart
