A disorder that is caused by the reactivation of pre-existingherpes zostervirus in thegeniculate ganglion, a nerve cell bundle, of thefacial nerve.

A
Prevention
- Varicella zoster immunisation, Zostavax, a stronger version of chickenpox vaccine.
Active Treatment
- Corticosteroid prednisolone and acyclovirwithin the first three days of facial paralysis,efficacy decreases with delayed treatment. Delayed of treatment may cause permanent facial nerve paralysis.
