Recurrent complex hallucinations (visual or auditory), occurring in clear consciousness. BG of visual impairment (Macular degeneration most common).
Insight is usually preserved. Occurs in the absence of any other significant neuropsychiatric disturbance.

Advanced age
Peripheral visual impairment
Social isolation
Sensory deprivation
Early cognitive impairment
Condition also known as erotomania.
A paranoid delusion where a single woman, believes that a famous person is in love with her.
De Clerambault’s syndrome
Pathological jealousy where a person is convinced their partner is cheating on them without any real proof.
This is accompanied by socially unacceptable behaviour linked to these claims.
Othello’s syndrome
Memory disorder seen in alcoholics.
Thiamine deficiency damages the mammillary bodies of the hypothalamus and the medial thalamus.
Features:
- inability to acquire new memories
- retrograde amnesia
- confabulation
Korsakoff’s syndrome
Patient believes that they (or a part of their body) is either dead or non-existent.
Often patients stop eating or drinking as they deem it not necessary.
Associated with severe depression and psychotic disorders.
Cotard syndrome
