Q

Epithelial features

A
  • Apical and basal surface
  • Avascular; nutrients must diffuse
  • High capacity for regeneration
  • Cells are in close contact w/ each other w/ little or no intercellular space b/w them
  • May have junctions for both attachment & communication
  • Resting on a basement membrane

Q

Epithelial classification

A
  • # of layers1 = simple
    1 irregularly-shaped = pseudostratified
    More than 1 = stratified
    More than 1 of similar cells = transitional
  • Shape of the cells of outermost layer
    Flat = squamous
    Square, round, cubical = cuboidal
    Tall = columnar
