Epithelial Tissues Flashcards
Simple Squamous
L- Alveoli in the lungs, and lungs capillaries
F- diffuses substances easier, oxygen in the lungs
S- One cell thick, cells wider than tall, with lots of free space
Simple Cuboidal
L- glands
F- secretion
S- 1 cell thick, cells as wide as thick, fee space in the tubules
Simple Columnar
L- stomach, small intestine
F- secretion of mucus, absorption
S- 1 cell thick, longer than width, free space in narrow regions
Pseudostratified Columnar
L- trachea, and bronchi
F- secretes mucus, and moves mucus/particles
S- looks like there are many layers, but there’s only one, nuclei aren’t lined up evenly
Stratified Squamous
L- skin, lining of the mouth
F- protection
S- multiple layers, there are top layers of keratin fibers, looks like a wave up and down, dark keratin layer is the stratified squamous
Transitional
L- bladder
F- can accommodate volume fluctuations
S- many layers, top layers look cuboidal and takes up more space but looks squamous when stretched,
