Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
The four types of tissue
epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous
Is epithelial vascular or avascular?
avascular (but has nerve endings)
the four types of epithelial tissue
squamous, cuboidal, columnar, and transitional
Difference between simple and stratified
simple = single layer stratified = several layers
Single layer of cube-shaped cells with centrally located nuclei
simple cuboidal
locations of simple cuboidal in the body
kidney tubules and the covering of the ovary
the two gland types
Endocrine- these glands make their product and secrete into the matrix.
Exocrine- these glands secrete their product outside of themselves using a duct.
Locations of stratified squamous in the body
outer layer of skin. Also lines the mouth, throat, vagina, and anal canal.
This tissue is well suited for diffusion
simple squamous
Locations of simple squamous in the body
inside of all blood vessels (endothelium)
inside of the heart (endocardium)
the walls of capillaries
This tissue’s nuclei are found at the base of the cell
simple columnar
Locations of simple columnar in the body
GI tract
female reproductive system
This tissue is found in one’s mammary glands, sweat glands, salivary glands, and pancreas (the body’s larger glands).
stratified cuboidal
This tissue is found in vas deferens (male reproductive) and lines the respiratory tract.
pseudostratified columnar
This tissue says it is stratified, but it isn’t
pseudostratified columnar
