Epithelial Glands Flashcards
Name some examples of exocrine glands
Mammary glands, salivary glands, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, liver/pancreas
Name some examples of endocrine glands
Pituitary, Parathyroid, Adrenal, thyroid.
What is the difference between exocrine and endocrine gland formation?
Exocrine remains connected to the original epithelium by causing downgrowth connecting to the connective tissue via ducts. Endocrine glands sever these connections and secrete its hormone into the blood stream.
Paracrine
Secretion affects neighboring cells (ex: growth factors)
Autocrine
Secretion affects the cell that released the secretory product (ex:IL-2 secreted by T cells)
Examples of unicellular glands
Goblet cells of intestine, mucous cells of stomach and enteroendocrine cells.
Secretion portions of glands can have 3 different shapes
Tubular, Alveolar(acinar) or a mix…tubuloalveolar
Gland can be serous, mucous or mixed. Mucous has a ___secretion. ___ has water enzyme-filled secretion.
1) thick, mucin-containing
2) Serous
Minor glands include __, __, ___ and ___. They are found in the functioning as ___.
Von ebner’s
Labial
Palatal
Buccal
Keep oral cavity moist
Major Salivary Gland include
Parotid, Submandibular and Sublingual
Parotid Gland made of
Serous acini
Submandibular Gland made of
Mixed with mucous and serous(predominant)
Sublingual gland made of
Mixed with mucous and serous(predominant)
