Epithelia Flashcards
Stratified Cuboidal is found where?
Sweat and oesophageal glands and part of the urethra.
Stratified columnar is found where?
Part of urethra and ducts of glands
Transitional epithelium lines where?
Bladder
Ureters
Part of urethra
Why is transitional epithelium adapted to it’s location?
They are transitional and can undergo a change in their structure e.g stretching and relaxing.
Where is simple sqaumous epithelium found?
Simple squamous epithelia are found in capillaries, alveoli, glomeruli, and other tissues where rapid diffusion is required. Cells are flat with flattened and oblong nuclei.
What does keratinized stratified squamous epithelium make up?
Superficial layer of the skin
What does non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium make up?
Wet surfaces e.g such as: Mouth Oesophagus Vagina Foreskin
Where is ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium found and what does it do?
Found in the trachea and upper respiratory tract, where their cilia and mucous secretions help collect foreign materials so you can cough or sneeze them out.
What lines the epididymus?
Pseudostratified columnar epithelium
What lines the vas deferens?
Non-ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelia
What does ciliated simple columnar epithelium line?
Bronchioles and fallopian tubes.
What does non ciliated simple columnar cells line?
Stomach to anus
Describe non ciliated simple columnar epithelium.
Contain microvilli and goblet cells for mucus secretion and absorption of nutrients.
What does simple cuboidal epithelium line?
Ovary
Kidneys
Ducts of glands
What lines the bronchioles?
Ciliated simple columnar epithelium
