Epitheleal cells Flashcards
Free surface
a side of a cell that doesn’t touch a cellular area
Basement membrane
a side of a cell that anchors to your body
Characteristics of epitheleal cells
Tightly packed
Ready to divide
Avascular
poor blood supply
Secretion
things made by cells that are used by the body
Excretion
cellular wastes
Simple squamous
Single layer of flat cells, diffusion, lines air sacs and blood vessels
Simple cuboidal
single layer of cube shaped cells, responsible for secretion in glands, pancreas, and liver
Simple columnar
single layer of elongated cells. Responsible for absorption (small and large intestine, microvilli)
Stratified squamous
Multiple layers of flat cells. Make up ur skin and keratinizes. It also makes up ur butthole and vagina and mouth
Stratified cuboidal
Multiple layers of cube shaped cells. Line the ducts of glands on ur nipple, sweat, salivary glands, and pancreas
Stratified columnar
Multiple layers of elongated cells. Pharynx and male urethera
Pseudostratified columnar
Fake multiple layers of elongated cells. Line the respiratory system. Goblet cells and cilia trap microorganisms
Transitional epithelium
changes in response to tension
Glandular epithelium
is responsible for secreting substances in glands and is often cuboidal or columnar
