What is epiglottis?
A
Inflammation of the epiglottis + aryepiglotic folds.
Nearly eradicated due to haemophilia influenza B vaccine

A
Haemophilus influenza

What are the signs and symptoms of epiglottis?
A
Stridor Leaning forward to breath Fevers Mostly in children aged 1-6 Cough absent Child drooling

What investigations can be done?
A
Endoscope - swollen and cherry red in colour
CT or Xray

What is the treatment of epiglottis?
A
1st - airway management (O2 and tracheal intubation)
2nd - IV Antibiotics (cefuroxime)
+ IV steroids (to reduce inflammation)
