Epidemiolgical Triad Flashcards
How many triads are there?
two
What is the first triad?
the foundation for descriptive epidemiology - person, place and time
What does the second triad tell you?
chain of transmission
What does the second triad tell you?
An external agent
A vector or fomite that transmits the disease
A susceptible host for the disease
What is the second triad used for?
define the major points of a disease case.
What are ecological studies?
comparisons of geographical locations
What is a cross-sectional?
a survey, “snapshot in time”
What does case-control mean?
compare people with and without disease to find common exposures
What does cohort mean?
compare people with and without exposures to see what happens to each
What is a randomized controlled trial?
human experiment
What do quasi experiments do?
research similarities with traditional experimental design or RCT, but lack element of random assignment to treatment/control
What is a 2*2 table?
Table which has two columns and rows for people with or without exposure and with or without disease; shows amount of people with each characteristic.
What is 2*2 table used for?
calculate odds ratio and relative risk
