Three-act structure:
1. beginning
-introduction
2. middle
-the plot, what hero wants to achieve, what kind of obstacles has to overcome
3. the end
-possible ways of resoluting the story

-18th century -> developed, recognized as “serious literature” with works of respected authors:
-Daniel Redfoe - Robinson Crusoe (1st English novel, 1719)
-Henry Fielding - History of Tom Jones, a foundling (1749)
-Pamella - Samuel Richardson (love as part of the plot for the 1st time)

-alternative and imaginary worlds
