What were strengths of the league
-written into peace treaties at the end of WW1 so many nations had signed agreements recognising the organisation
-had a vast membership
many members so economic sanctions and moral condemnation were daunting for many countries
What were the weaknesses of the League
-many important countries did not join such as USA which undermined it as a ‘global’ organisation
-had no army
-complicated structure
-power of veto made decision-making hard and slow

-keep world peace by dealing with disputes between nations
-safeguard the independence of nations and their frontiers
- encourage nations to reduce their armaments
-improve living and working conditions for all people
