EOR #6 pharm part 2 Flashcards
Common indications for hydroxyzine
Antiallergy agent
For management of pruritis d/t allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria, atopic dermatoses, and contact dermatoses and in histamine-mediated pruritis, anxiety
MOA of hydroxyzine
Competes with histamine for H1-receptor sites on effector cells in the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels, and respiratory tract.
Common AEs of hydroxyzine
Drowsiness
Dry mouth
HA
Renal or hepatic dose adjustments for hydroxyzine
Liver dz: change dosing interval to every 24 hrs
Clinically significant drug interactions with hydroxyzine
EtOH
Other CNS depressants
Major counseling points for hydroxyzine
May cause drowsiness
Use caution while operating machinery or when mental alertness is required
Avoid EtOH while taking this medication
Monitoring parameters for hydroxyzine
Decrease in S/sx of allergic conditions
Improvement in anxiety or sleep
Common indications for isosorbide mononitrate
Angina
MOA of isosorbide mononitrate
Nitric oxide activates an enzyme which increases cGMP, this dilates large myocardial arteries to increase blood supply to the heart
Common AEs of isosorbide mononitrate
HA
Dizziness
Clinically significant drug interactions of isosorbide mononitrate
Phosphodiesterase 5 Inhibitors: May enhance the vasodilation effect of organic nitrates Rosiglitazone: Vasodilators may enhance the adverse/toxic effect of Rosiglitazone, specifically, a greater risk of ischemia.
Major counseling points of isosorbide mononitrate
Do not take for emergency treatment of acute onset chest pain Scored tablets may be split, but not crushed or chewed
Headaches show signs of drug working
Use Tylenol to treat headache
Monitoring parameters of isosorbide nitrate
Decrease in s/sx of angina
Common indications for pantoprazole
GERD
PUD
Gastritis
MOA of pantoprazole
Suppresses final step in production of gastric acid at secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell
