Enzymes practical Flashcards
1
Put a drop of iodine solution into every well of a spotting tile.
Place a Bunsen burner on a heat proof mat, a tripod and a gauze over the Bunsen burner. Put a beaker of water and heat it up to 35 degrees
2
Use a syringe to add 3cm^3 of amylase solution and 1cm^3 of a buffer solution with a PH of 5 to a boiling tube
3
Different syringe to add 3cm^3 of a starch solution to the boiling tube.
4
Mix the contents of the boiling tube and start the stopwatch
5
Do continuous samplings to record how long it takes for the amylase to breakdown.
6
Repeat using different PH values to see how PH affects the time that starch breaks down
Controlled variables
Concentration of amylase solution
Volume of amylase solution
To make it a fair test
State the hazard and safety precaution
Iodine solution is an irritant. Avoid contact with skin or eyes
