Enzymes and Coenzymes Flashcards
1
Q
How do enzymes speed up reactions?
A
Lower activation energy
- By weakening bonds withing the substrate when the active site is in contact with substrate
- Makes bonds easier to break
2
Q
Competitive inhibitors effect on rate of enzyme reaction
A
Bind to active site, but can be displaced if substrate concentration is high enough (reversible)
3
Q
Non-competitive inhibitors effect on rate of enzyme reaction
A
Bind to allosteric site, changing shape of enzyme so no longer complementary (irreversible)
4
Q
Co-Factors
A
Bind to active site and increase affinity to substrate
i.e. ATP, NADH, NADPH, FADH2
