Enzymes Flashcards
What is activation energy ?
The minimum amount of energy required for a chemical reaction
What is a biological catalyst ?
A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction
What is collision theory ?
When molecules collide bonds between the atoms can breaks down new ones form to make new molecules
What is the lock and key model of an enzyme action?
The substrate is complimentary to the active site the substrate bind to the active site.
What is the induced fit model of an enzyme action?
The enzyme active site and the substrate a slightly not complimentary so the active site change your ship placing strain on the bonds in the substrate.
Why do pH affect enzyme function?
Some enzymes have an optimum pH where they work best from the optimum pH the enzymes H bonds and ionic bonds are changed changing the shape of the active site preventing enzyme substrate complex is from forming
How do enzymes allow reactions take place at body temperature?
Enzymes are biological catalysts that lower the activation energy for the reaction by forming enzyme substrate complexes
