Enzyme Kinetics Flashcards
What is the equation for velocity (v)?
Vmax*(SUBSTRATE CONC / KM + SUBSTRATE CONC)
What is Vmax?
Maximal velocity
What is KM?
The substrate concentration that gives 1/2 the maximal velocity or Vmax/2.
What are the equations for Vmax?
Vmax = 2KM
Vmax = kcat[Etot]
What is [Etot]?
The enzyme concentration.
What is kcat?
Essentially the rate at which the enzyme works (turnover number in a given time).
What is KM?
Describes the enzyme’s substrate concentration dependence.
On the graph, what does the Y intercept indicate?
The Y intercept = - 1/KM
On the graph, what does the X intercept represent?
The X intercept = 1/Vmax
After the addition of a competitive inhibitor, what happens to Vmax?
Vmax remains the same. KM changes.
