Enzyme kinetics Flashcards
1
Q
Oxioreductase
A
catalyzes oxidation- reduction reactions
Ex: dehydrogenase
2
Q
transferase
A
catalyze transfer of C, N or P containing groups
-kinase
3
Q
hydrolase
A
catalayze cleavage of bonds by addition of water
4
Q
lyase
A
catalyzes cleavage of C-C, C-S and certain C-N bonds
5
Q
Isomerase
A
-catalyzes racemization of optical or geometric isomers
6
Q
Ligase
A
catalyzes formation of C,O,S, and N coupled to hydrolysis of high energy phosphate
7
Q
What are the common enzymes of metabolism and what is its function?
A
- Kinase: transfer a phosphate group from one molecule to ANOTHER molecule
- Isomerase: converts molecule to another isomer. rearranges in molecule without loss or gain of atoms
- mutase( transferase): shift of phosphate group from one carbon to another carbon in the same molecule.
- dehydrogenase (oxidoreductase): involves NADH or FADH; oxidation/ reduction reaction
- aldolase: cleaves C-C bond
8
Q
What are the properties of enzymes?
A
- active site mad by aa brought together by folding of protein
- specific for a particular reaction.
- catalytic efficency
- cofactors/ coenzymes
- coenzymes are derivatives of vitamins
- regulation
- compartmentalization
9
Q
cofactors
A
metal ion, dissociable (Mg2+, Fe2+)
10
Q
coenzyme
A
organic molecule, dissociable
-NADH, FADH, NADHP
11
