A
-integrates and enhances the three previous control regimes based on pollution of air, water and land. It is based on the concept that “the polluter must pay” and considers industrial discharges to all media in the context of the effect on the environment as a whole.

- First published in 1996
- Similar to BS7750 with no significant differences, and has replaced it
- Adopted by an increasingly large number of organisations like Ford, Toyota, Sony
- Number of registrations to ISO14001 could overtake those of ISO9000
- Designed to help an organisation systematic approach to the evaluation of its impact on the environment
- Internationally recognised environmental management standard. Systematic framework managing the immediate and long term environmental impacts of an organisation’s products, services and processes.
