Differentiate between DCS 1 and 2
DCS 2 is associated with hemodynamic compromise and/or neurological effects.
Transport these patients in left-lateral decubitus with head flat and high flow O2
Concerns for treating a drowning:
- Intubate early to improve oxygenation/ventilation
- Swap out HME filters regularly
- Often these patients are hypothermic and hypocoaguable
What are the four types of blast injuries?
Primary: Pressure wave causes rupture of air filled organs and air emboli.
Secondary: Injuries result from debris or shrapnel
Tertiary: Blunt trauma as a result of being thrown
Quaternary: Smoke inhalation, burns, toxic gases, crush injuries…
What types of radiation with kill you?
Gamma and Neutron. Alpha and Beta will only kill you if you ingest them.
A blast injury that results in rupture of the tympanic membranes will likely lead to what syndrome?
