Q

How will you build relationships with staff & students?

A

Staff-The first thing I would do is open the lines of communication. Meet face to face with as many people as possible. I need to actually schedule a time during the day to build relationships. Maybe just 10 minutes a day, I’ll set aside that time to have meaningful discussions with staff members. In developing relationships, it’s important to have positive energy. I feel I am a very positive person. I also value the importance of being a good listener. When dealing with anyone, I make active listening a priority. Honesty and trust are the foundation of any relationship. I never make promises that I can’t follow through. I avoid any type of gossip. And most importantly, I care about people in an unconditional manner. As an administrator, I will unconditionally care for everyone.
Students-Same but learn student interests build rapport. make connections.
Summary: Open the lines of communication, set aside time to meet with people, be positive, actively listen, be honest and trusting, and unconditionally care for others.

Q

Please describe how you would create and implement an action plan.

A

The action plan begins defining the goal, with the big picture in mind and then smaller goals to accomplish building up the main one. To develop the smaller goals, the action plan would need to contain some initial data. For example, I would have the baseline data on the current number of referrals given out weekly, monthly, and yearly. Based off the baseline, I would create specific target goals. These goals must be S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time bound). Next, I would outline several different strategies to meet each of the specific goals. The strategies must be aligned with certain activities aimed to jumpstart the plan into action. Each activity will must have individual staff members assigned. These members are responsible for the implementation of that activity. A timeline is also necessary for each activity. You need both a start and an end date. After time of the activities have expired, I’ll evaluate the effectiveness of the particular strategies as they relate to the target goal. And lastly, I’ll evaluate the effectiveness of the specific target goals in relation to the broad goal.

Summary: Define the big picture goal, develop smaller specific goals to achieve the broad goal, outline strategies, create strategy aligned activities, assign individuals to oversee the activities, have time constraints, evaluate strategies and the overall effectiveness of the plan.

Q

How would you use data to make decisions in education?

A

The data will mostly be used as a systematically approach to instructional strategies. As an administrator, I have a responsibility to first value the data presented. Before beginning data driven decision making, I’ll determine what type of data is important to the school (standardized test scores, technology capabilities, teacher quality, school climate, etc). I need to really pinpoint what it is I am looking to learn from the data. I’ll also have a focus on the shared school vision. If I’m assessing student performance for example, I’ll utilize multiple types of assessments. I would aggregate data, to summarize information. Then I would disaggregate the data, break it down into smaller more specific data sets. But before making any types of decisions for the school, I’ll share the data with the school community. I’d like to solicit the opinions of other educators for making educational decisions. There is nothing wrong with getting second opinions and various viewpoints on decisions to be made. I would like to start by collaboratively making small scale data driven decisions. This would help me gain trust for making larger decisions. It should also be noted that data collection is a continuous process. I’ll be looking for more and more data as decisions get larger in scale.

Summary: Use it as a systematic approach to instructional strategies, first respect the data, determine the types of data that are important, pinpoint what we are trying to learn from the data, keep the focus on the school vision, aggregate and disaggregate the data, share the data, solicit opinions and ideas, collaboratively make small and large scale decisions, continuously collect data to make larger scale decisions.

Q

What are some goals you would like to achieve in this district during your first year?

A

First, I would like to create and cultivate a shared vision/mission my department/school. The shared vision should be developed based on the individual goals of the staff. I want to support teachers with their professional goals and development. I would like to increase the amount of technology related to instruction. Technology is always updating itself, and the department/school should be on the front end. My next goal is develop strong positive relationships with staff and students. Relationships are arguably the most important component in leadership. I want to increase community/parent involvement within the district. I’d like to increase instructional rigor at the classroom level. And lastly, I want to create a fun and exciting atmosphere. I want the staff to be excited when they come to work. I do believe that fun atmosphere leads to more productivity.

Summary: Create a shared vision, support teacher goals and development, help incorporate technology, build relationships with staff, students, and the community, increase community involvement, increase instructional rigor, and create a fun and exciting atmosphere.
