Entropy Flashcards
What is lattice enthalpy?
The enthalpy change when one mole of a solid ionic compound is formed from gaseous ions under standard conditions
What is the enthalpy change of a solution?
The enthalpy change when 1 mole of a solute is dissolved In sufficient solution so that no more changes occur on further dilution
What is the enthalpy of hydration?
The enthalpy change when one mole of aqueous ions is formed from gaseous ions
If a reaction is endothermic what has to happen to make sure it dissolves
Much greater increase in entropy
What will lead to the most negative enthalpy of hydration?
A smaller ionic radius as the lattice enthalpy will be more exothermic and highly charged ions as they release more energy
What is the relationship between ^s total and the equilibrium constant k?
^stotal =lnk
As ^s total increases so does k
What value does k take if it has gone to completion
K> 10^10
What is a homogenous catalyst?
A catalyst that is in the same state as the reactant
What is a heterogeneous catalyst?
A catalyst in a different state that the reactants
What are the axis for this Arrhenius graph
1/t on the x
Ln k on the y
