enthalpy change of solution/ hydration Flashcards
1
Q
define the enthalpy change of solution
A
” “ when a compound dissolves in one mole solute dissolves in a solution (if the solution is water then an ionic attic forms) and it can be exothermic or endothermic.
2
Q
define enthalpy change of hydration
A
the enthalpy change that accompanies the dissolving of gaseous ions in water to form one mole of aq ions.
3
Q
describe the factors effecting hydration enthalpy
A
the greater the charge density/ ionic charge, the smaller the ionic radius and the greater the attraction for water molecules the more exothermic the enthaply change.
