What are the symptoms of Meniere’s disease? (5 things)

A
  1. Muffled hearing or hearing loss
  2. Feeling of fullness or pressure in the ears
  3. Tinnitus
  4. Dizziness/ vertigo (lasting anywhere from 20 mins- few hours - NO MORE THAN 24 HRS)
  5. Usually unilateral but can become bilateral

What self care advice would you give someone with Meniere’s disease? (4 things)

A
  1. Acute attack of vertigo will normally settle within 24 hours in most people
  2. Meniere’s disease is a long-term condition, but vertigo usually significantly improves with treatment
  3. Advise the person not to drive when they are dizzy, or if they might experience an episode of vertigo while driving
  4. Refer to Meniere’s society
