what should you do if pt has chronic earache but normal ENT and dental exam
MRI!!!
it could be a malignancy
otalgia referred pain C2 and C3
-arthritis/cervical spondylosis
-soft tissue injury
referred otalgia CN V
-dental disease
-TMJ dysfunction
-tongue base tumour
referred otalgia CN IX
-almost any oropharyngeal infective process
-tongue base tumour
referred otalgia CN X
carcinoma of larynx and hypopharynx
what is stertor
-caused by an obstruction above the level of the larynx
-low pitch snoring or snuffly sound
what is stridor
-due to airflow changes within the larynx, trachea or main bronchi
-more musical in character
-high pitched
-narrow or obstructed airway path
inspiratory stridor
generally higher in airway
-can be indicative of a serious airway emergency
Slow growing, painless, mobile lump in the parotid gland of older female
pleomorphic adenoma
gentamicin ototoxicity symptoms
irreversible hearing loss
-no vertigo or nausea
what do you do if someone has a post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage
send to ENT
haemorrhage 6-8 hours following tonsillectomy
immediate return to theatre
haemorrhage 5-10 days after tonsillectomy what do u do
admission and antibiotics
-usually means a wound infection
