Brain Drain
The emigration of highly trained or qualified people from a particular place or country.
Brand
A type of produce manufactured by a particular country under a particular name.
Brawn Drain
Young people have been leaving agricultural areas in search of secondary and tertiary employment in urban areas, leaving children and the elderly to tend the land.
Cultural diffusion
The spread of cultural beliefs and social activities from one group of people to another. The mixing of world cultures through different ethnicities, religions, and nationalities has only increased with advanced communication, transportation and technology.
Cultural Erosion
The uniqueness of different cultures gradually being eroded away. eg. traditional dress only being worn on special occasions, with western dress favoured day to day.
Deindustrialisation
The decline of regionally important manufacturing industries. This can be in terms of either workforce numbers or output of manufactured goods.
Dereliction
Land or buildings which have fallen into disuse or disrepair.
Deprivation
A situation where quality of life is below that of what can be expected for a particular place at a particular time.
Elite Migration
The movement of highly skilled workers from one place to another.
Global Culture
A group of people whose members identify with each other, on the basis of distinctiveness measured by combinations of cultural, linguistic, religious, behavioural and/or biological traits.
Host Location
The place where migrants go to.
Hub City
A city which is a focal point for activities with a global significance.
Low-wage migration
Those on low wages moving to another country where they will be paid much higher wages for a similar job.
Megacity
A city with a population higher than 10million.
Pull Factor
Reasons why people move to a place.
