A period of intellectual and social change in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries
What is the significance outcome to the enlightenment?
It led to the questioning of traditional beliefs and embraced reason
Define Renaissance?
A revival of art and literature
What is Humanism
Believed human reason and logic were as important in understanding the world as religion
What is absolutism?
a political system in which one ruler or leader has complete power and authority over a country.
What is the divine right of kings
Absolute power- only answerable to god, and no one could challenge the king.
What are Natural rights?
The right to life, liberty, and property. These rights are your rights that cannot be taken away.
Separation of power
Montesquieu introduced this. Power divided between three branches.
What are the three branches?
Executive who executes laws, Legislative, makes laws, Judicial executes laws
