Enhanced Fluency Approach Flashcards
1
Q
Where is it used?
A
Australia
2
Q
Aims
A
To achieve 0% SS (e.g. smooth speech)
3
Q
What does it involve?
A
Replacement of stuttered speech with a style of speech that is INCOMPATIBLE with stuttering
4
Q
What theory is it based on?
A
Goldiamond’s (1961) experiments with DAF - which found that a slower speaking rate, decreased amplitude variation, a monotonous tone, and less stress contrasts, were all associated with reduced stuttering
5
Q
What is it characterised by?
A
Soft articulatory onsets (i.e. not jerky), continuous airflow, linkage between words
6
Q
What are the phases of treatment?
A
- Statement (treatment) - the period in clinic learning the new skills/way of speaking
- Transfer - generalising skills by making phone calls, practising job interviews - client-specific
- Maintenance - extending the time period between appointments
