Stout
(adj) : somewhat fat or heavy build; plump
ex: His stout appearance does not stop him from doing anything, including fitting in small spaces.
Cynical
(adj) : believing that people are motivated by self-interest; distrust of human sincerity or integrity.
ex: Whenever my Grandpa opened him mouth, a cynical remark always came out.
Ensconce
(verb) : establish or settle (someone) in a comfortable safe, or secret place.
ex: She ensconced herself in her room with all of the stuffed animals.
Pretext
(n) : a reason given in justification of an action that is not the real reason; a false excuse.
ex: Jamie cancelled her blind date on the pretext that she has too much studying to do.
Augment
(verb) : to make larger; increase
ex: By studying the reactions of similar forms, researchers have greatly augmented out knowledge of the human behavior.
Perpetually
(adv): in a manner that is everlasting; continuing or ensuing forever
Ex: My brother is perpetually annoying.
Compensate
To give (someone) something, typically money, in recognition of loss, suffering, or injury incurred. Ex: I demanded to be compensated when I opened my package and nothin was there.
Countenance
(n): the appearance of a person’s face: a person’s expression.
Ex: His countenance changed when he found out the big news.
Ignominious
(adj): marked with or characterized by disgrace or shame; dishonorable.
Ex: he had to be kicked out because of his ignominious behavior.
Resilience
(n): the ability to become strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happened, the ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
Ex: My brother has a lot of resilience since he was in the army.
Insidious
(adj): intended to deceive or entrap; sly, treacherous.
Ex: Her insidious plan to overthrow the queen is set in stone.
