A verb expresses an action or mental or physical state.
What is the general rule of verbs?
“I ATE a sandwich as I FELT hungry”
As a general rule, if you can put “-ing” after it, it is a verb.
How does a verb affect the subject of a sentence?
Remember that most sentences contain a verb or verbs.
The verb lets you know what the subject of the sentence is doing or being.

What is the infinitive verb?
The infinitive is otherwise called the "to" form of the verb. For example: To ride To jump To smile To be
What does the infinitive verb not tell us?
Note that the infinitive does not tell us about tense or when an action is happening, nor does it tell us who is performing the action.
INFINITIVE = BASIC FORM OF THE VERB.
What is the finite form of a verb?
The finite form of a verb are the forms where the verb shows tense, person or singular/plural. In other words, a finite verb shows who is performing the action and when it was performed.
For example:
I am - the I is first person singular and the am is present tense.
She was - the she is third person singular and the was is past tense.
List the subject verb agreement (She were, They was)
I was, she was, he was, they were, we were, you were.
What are the present tense singular words?
1st - I
2nd - You
3rd - He/she/it.
What are the past tense plural words?
1st - We
2nd - You
3rd - They
What are non-finite verbs?
Non-finite verb forms have no person, tense or number and usually combine with a modal, auxiliary or infinitive. For example: i WILL be GOING. they MIGHT GO I WANT to GO. The capitals show auxiliary verbs.
What are auxiliary verbs?
Auxiliary verbs are found in front of the main verb and can tell us about tense.
For example:
I must HAVE BEEN Going the wrong way.
Notice that going is the main verb in the sentence and HAVE and BEEN are the auxiliary verbs as they tell us about the tense - past.
What is the rule for regular verbs (present tense)?
In the present tense, add ‘s’ to the basic form when the person is third person singular (he/she/it.)
For example:
She CLEANS the car while he LAUGHS.
What is the rule for regular verbs (past tense)?
Regular verbs form a past tense by adding ‘ed’ to the basic form .
For example :
She CLEANED the car while he LAUGHED.
What are irregular verbs?
Irregular verbs do not follow the same rules that regular verbs do, such as adding ‘s’ in the present tense for the third person singular and ‘ed’ to the past tense verbs.
For example:
Am, Is/Are, are all irregular verbs because the past tense would be: Was and Were.
The past participle of these verbs would be Been.
