English: Adjectives Flashcards
What are adjectives?
Adjectives are describing words and usually describe nouns. They may be placed before or after the noun.
What is it called when the adjective is placed before the noun? (give some examples).
If they are placed before the noun, they are called attributive adjectives.
For example:
Sol clutched the note between his GRUBBY fingers.
In this sentence, grubby is the attributive adjective.
What is it called when the adjective is placed after the noun? (give some examples).
If they are placed after the noun, they are called predicative adjectives.
For example:
The film was FAMTASTIC but the girl felt SAD after leaving the cinema.
In this sentence, FANTASTIC and SAD are the predicative adjectives.
What are comparative adjectives?
The comparative adjective makes a comparison between two things.
For example:
I am TALLER than you are.
How do you make a comparative adjective?
To form the comparative of short adjectives such as ‘tall’, add ‘-er’ to spell TALLER.
What is a superlative adjective?
A superlative adjective involves a comparison to an extreme degree.
For example:
This is the best car I’ve ever owned.
