Personification
Give an inanimate object a human feeling or characteristic
Eg: the tree danced happily in the breeze
Alliteration
2 or more words starting with the same syllable
Eg: Harry was happily hopping along the shore
Onomatopoeia
A word which represents a sound
Eg: the Ferrari whizzed past the other cars
Similie
Describing something like something else
Eg: her teeth were white like snow
Metaphor
Describing something as something else
E.g her teeth were snow
Sibilance
Starting words with the ‘s’ sylybol
E.g the snake slithered swiftly through the night
Rhetorical question
Asking a question which doesn’t require an answer and invokes thought
E.g Do you think im crazy
Colloquial language
Informal language used in everyday conversation, may suggest friendship or your social class.
E.g yo, you good bro
Hyperbole
Exaggerating statements or claims not to be taken literally
E.g when i fell over i nearly died!
Pathos
A persuasive technique used to appeal the readers emotions & intrest
Rhyme
Using words which end in the same sound usually at the end of a line
Rhythm
A repeated pattern of movement or sound
Caesura
A break in the middle of a line of poetry used to create a dramatic pause.
Symbolism
The use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities
Article
Articles are words that define a noun as specific or unspecific.
