Q

Introduction

A

Tim Winton’s The Boy Behind the Curtain, epitomises how a contemporary ideological society, imprints upon oneself to the point of shaping innate human values. It is through genuine visceral emotion; generated not by an anomalous experience but by that of insignificant significance, that boredom, confusion and regret lead to a profound understanding of human misunderstanding. The Wait and the Flow and Barefoot in the Temple of Art appear superficially disconnected but actually are conceptually identical. Emotions are travelled independently before conjoining at crossroads, the interaction of one experience allowing for paths to be re-travelled with newfound vision. Hindsight through maturity.
