Technique: Dialogue- Li’s mother and guards, Contrast- Li’s mother is expected to accept the condemnation from the guards while Liz does not take Li’s rude behaviour toward her, contrasts China’s gender roles and America’s gender roles
Example: When Li is ‘banished’ from China his mother is informed, the guards blame her for Li’s upbringing as a traitor and that she should be ashamed. Li’s mother then stands up to them saying that the government brought him up and that they are to blame.
