How can you tell first person point of view?
character is telling the story (using I)
How can you tell third person limited view?
not involved in story, but knows the thoughts/feeling of one character
How can you tell third person omniscient?
knows everything
What are the two types of characterization?
direct and indirect
How can you tell direct characterization?
the author tells you what the character is like
How can you tell indirect characterization?
the author describes how the character looks, dresses, speaks, thinks, feels, etc.
What are the three types of irony?
verbal, situational, and dramatic
What is verbal irony?
when someone says one thing, but really mean another (sarcasm)
What is situational irony?
a contrast between what is expected and what happens
What is dramatic irony?
when we know what is going to happen
How can you tell if a sentence is the theme of the story?
one sentence, idea that is tried to be conveyed, different from moral, no cliches, and second person
