What is a metaphor
A metaphor is describing something that it is not
Simile
A simile is a word using like or as before it e.g the boy swam like a fish

Onomatopoeia is when a word sounds like the sound of the word

Alliteration is when words start with the same sound

Personification is when you describe something with human features but does not actually have those features

Rhyming couplets are two lines that rhyme

Verses are when you leave gaps between a paragraph

Question marks show when someone is asking a question

Apostrophes are used to replace a letter such as do not changes to don’t

Comma is used to show extra information or when a list

Semi colons are used to join closely connected ideas in a sentence

Colons are used to introduce an explanation

Dashes are used to replace a semi colon or a colon when your writing something chatty and informal or if you want to show a movement of surprise or drama

Are used for pauses
