England AFTER The Black Death Flashcards
What were some of the best things about the Black Death for England?
Peasants got more freedom and a higher pay.
Why did the Black Death mean that the peasants got higher pay?
Because there were so few peasants to work, they could ask for a higher wage and the lord’s options would be to have no peasants to work for them or to pay them the higher wage they wanted.
In 1350, what were the major differences for the villeins compared to 1347?
1) They receive a higher wage.
2) They became freemen because they could threaten to leave the land and then the lord would have to give them what they wanted because there was no one else to work for them.
