Engines - Ignition & Start Flashcards
Each engine is equipped with a …………… starter motor
Bleed air powered
Bleed air is provided from:
A ground air cart/other operating engine or APU
Each engine has ………….igniters
2
The EEC automatically uses ……… igniter fir engine starts on the ground
1
…………….igniters are used for inflight starts
Both
Is the same igniter used for every start on the ground?
No, alternating igniters for each start
Auto start may automatically initiate a second start attempt for conditions like ?
Hot starts or no light offs.
Before a second attempt, EEC shuts off fuel & ignition, then motors the engine for 4 seconds & the second start attempt uses BOTH igniters
Can autostart attempt a third start
Yes
After a 3rd failed auto start, the engine motors for ?
30 seconds
Max inflight engine restart altitude?
FL300
Inflight start with auto start on are limited to?
They aren’t limited. Auto starts makes start attempts indefinitely until either the engine starts or, the pilot selects CUTOFF
In flight, will the Autostart allow the EGT to rise above the start limit?
Yes, to a preset EGT between the start limit & the t/o EGT limit
What does the Auto-relight function protect against?
Engine flameout & sub-idle stall recovery
If the EEC detects an engine flameout, what is activated?
Both igniters
A flame out is detected when?
A rapid decrease in N2 occurs or, N2 is less than idle RPM
