Monitors the staus of all enginnering equipment from CCS while in-port during AUX steaming.
What is IEM?
While in-port, roving watch that monitors all engineering equipment.
What is EEM?
Monitors engineering equipment while underway.

What is the configuration of Full power?
All four GTM’s online, for a max speed of 30+ knots.
What is the configuration of Split plant?
One GTM online per shaft for max speed of 27 knots.
What is the configuration of Trail shaft?
One GTM online on one shaft, other shaft is not powered but spins freely in the water. 23 knots max speed.
What is the configuration of Lock shaft?
Shaft is locked; MRG will not turn the shaft. Single shaft is locked, max speed is 12 knots.
How many GTGs are on board and what model are they?
- Rolls Royce Alison 501-K34 model.
What are the GTGs rated at?
450VAC, 3000kW, 4800A, 60Hz Three-Phase.
How many stages are in the compressor for a GTG?
14 Stages
What type of combustor is used for a GTG and how many are there per GTG?
Can-annular combustor, consists of 6 annular combustion chambers.
How many Fuel nozzles does each GTG have?

How many of the combustors have igniters?
2 cans of the 6. Flame spreads to the other cans via crossover tubes.
Are there intake silencers for the GTGs?
No. The rest of the intake system is similar.
What does the GTGs use for lubrication and what are the two oil systems used?
23699 for lubrication. The oils systems used; is one for the reduction gear/engine and one for the generator.
What does the Reduction gear of a GTG do?
Drives a L/O pump for the Engine/Reduction Gear lubrication system.
What does the Generator gear of a GTG do?
Drive the generator L/O pump.
What does the Electric pump of a GTG do?
Drives oil to the generator during engine start-up. Automatically starts/stops.
What is the RPM of a GTG?
14,340 RPM
What ratio does the reduction gear, of the GTG, reduce to?
7.967:1
After the reduction gear reduces what is the new RPM of the GTG?
1800 RPM

How many protected electrical zones are on board and what is the purpose?
There are six protected electrical zones. This is to prevent battle or fire damage from making the ship go dark.
What is Load Shed for?
Protects the distribution system.
What happens when 100% of the system is at load?
All non-vital loads will turn off for load shed.
What is Load Shed stage 1?
100% of rated load for 100ms. Non-vital loads get turned off.
What is Load Shed Stage 2?
100% of rated load for 5 extra seconds. Semi-vital and vital hight demand loads get turned off.
What gets turned off in Stage 1 Load Shed?
Non-Vital Auxiliary Machine Panels, General Workshop panel, Galley Panels, VCHT/Anchor Windlass/Fuel transfer heaters.
What gets turned off in Stage 2 Load Shed?
AC Compressors + VLS/SPY Anti-Icing heaters.
What is JP-5?
Helo Fuel for GTM/GTG, fuel for P-100.
What is JP-5 also known as?
F-44
What is another use of JP-5?
Emergency fuel for GTM/GTGs via spectacle flange in MER 2 but will bypass the F/O heaters.
Where is the Service system for JP-5 located?
3 Gen
What does the Service system for JP-5 consist of?
2 Service tanks, each holds 1628 gallons. JP-5 service pump 100GPM @195PSIG. Service Filter/ Separator filters contaminants. Service Coalescer.
How many storage tanks are there for JP-5?

8500-10500 Gal.
What stations can JP-5 be taken into the ship?
Station 7 or 8.

Drain tank with 550 Gallon capacity. Strips storage and service tanks of sediment and water prior to placing them on suction.

What is F76?
Primary fuel for the GTMs/GTGs, also known as DFM (Diesel Fuel Marine). RHIB + backup for P-100.
Where are the service tanks for F76 located?
MER 1 and MER 2
How many service tanks for F76 are on board?
- 2 per MER.
What is the capacity of the F76 service tanks?
1A (22,900 Gallons), 1B (17,800 Gallons), 2A (17,000 Gallons), and 2B (20,200 Gallons).
What are the F76 gravity feed tanks a normal source of fuel for?
1 and #2 GTG. Both MER’s have a single 600 Gallon gravity feed tank.
What do the Gravity Feed/Head Tanks do?
Feed all GTGs normal fuel, they also provide 5 minutes of emergency fuel to GTM’s for emergency shutdown as well as 45 minutes of run time for the GTG.
How many F/O service pumps are there on board?
- 2 per MER.
What is the rating of the F/O pumps?
(SLOW) 36GPM @105PSIG, (FAST) 72GPM @105PSIG
What do the emergency trip valves do?
Secures fuel flow from head and service tanks in an emergency. Remote and locally operated from the main deck. Yellow handles by HALON panels. These will essentially turn off the GTM or GTG they are attached to.
What temperature does Fuel Oil Service Heater maintain?
85 F
What does the Fuel Oil Pre-filter do and how many are there on board?
- Two per MER. It removes sediment.
What is the Fuel Oil Pre-filter’s Differential Pressure set at?
18 PSIG
What does the Fuel Oil Filter/Separator do and how many are on board?
- Two per MER. It removes water and sediment.
What is the Fuel Oil Filter/Separator’s Differential Pressure set at?
15 PSIG
How many Fuel Oil Purification systems are on board and what is the purpose?
- 1 per MER. Removes dirt and particulate.
What does the F/O transfer pump transfer at?
110GPM @ 45PSIG
What are the emergency backup fuel tanks?
The F/O Service pumps can take suction directly from the storage tanks, bypassing the fuel oil heater and purifier.
What is sea water compensation?
As fuel is pumped out of the storage tanks, the liquid level drops, which causes seawater to flow in. It’s a continuous process.
What fuel is stored in sea water compensation tanks?
F76
Where are the sea water compensation tanks located?
MER 1, MER 2, and 3 GEN.
What is the Brayton Cycle?
Intake, Compression, Combustion, and Exhaust.
How many LM 25000 (GTM) Turbines are on board and who makes them?
- General Electric.
What are the GTM’s rated at?
26,250 bHP each.
How many stage compressor does the GTM have?
16 stage compressor.
What is known as the brain of the GTM?
Engine Controller. There is an Engine Controller for each GTM.
What controls fuel intake?
Digital Fuel Controller (DFC), which increases or decreases the speed of the GTM.
What is LOSCA?
Lube Oil Storage Conditioning Assembly
What does LOSCA do?
Filters, conditions and cools 23699 using 2190.
How many LOSCA are there on board?
1 per GTM. 2 per MER. 4 total.
How does LOSCA work?
2190 from the MRG/Thrust bearing L/O system goes into the LOSCA and cools the 23699 that has come from the GTM.
