ENgineering Flashcards
Horse power?
305HP @ 506 cubic in displacement.
Engine make and model.
Cummins Onan, 6cta8.3 M1.
Cruising/max engine rpms?
7kts @1800rpm.
10.5 kts @ 2300 rpm.
Engine Rotation?
Engine rotates counter clockwise facing forward.
STBD rotates right hand ahead.
PORT rotates left hand ahead.
Lube oil capacity?
23.2 qt/ 15w-40.
Purpose of Air Sep system?
Used to separate air from oil in exhaust.
Oil goes to pan, air to turbo.
Generator rating?
AC generator set is a 20kw, single phase, 120VAC, 60HZ unit, @ 1800RPM.
Location of fuel tanks?
Capacity?
Located PORT & STBD at frame 4a to 5.
Access covers on 4a.
Filled to 783gal @ 95%.
Primary fuel filters?
In board and aft of each engine, on suction side of fuel pump.
Filter is rated at 30 microns.
Secondary fuel filter?
Port side, discharge side of fuel pump, prior to injectors.
Where are the sea suction valves and strainers?
Sea suction valves for SSDG are on PORT and STBD side of SSDG.
Strainer located PORT side.
Sea suction valve and strainer for raw water system located FRWD of PORT SSDG.
State the type of coolant system used.
Keel cooled cooling system.
How are the MDE’s cooled?
Coolant flows from MDE, through keel cooler, to gear cooler, then back to MDE. Gear cooler transferres oil to and from MDE.
How is the generator cooled?
A centrifugal engine-driven pump pumps jacket water through the engine and keel cooler.
What components make up the cooling system on the MDE?
An engine driven cooling water pump, coolant reservoir, coolant filter, thermostat, reduction gear/clutch lube oil cooler and keel cooler.
