How and when should a disabling casualty be reported?
Disabling casualties should be reported immediately to Operational Commander.
What is a disabling casualty?
A casualty that makes the boat not serviceable.
What is a restrictive discrepancy?
A restrictive discrepancy is one that restricts the operations of the boat so it can perform some missions, but not all.
What is a major discrepancy?
A major discrepancy is one that degrades the effectiveness of the boat to perform one or more of its missions.
How are major discrepancies dealt with?
Major discrepancies shall be documented.
A plan of action will be formulated and carried out.
What are minor discrencies?
Minor discrepancies do not effect operational readiness, but boats do not meet standardization criteria.
What are the disabling casualties?
Reduction gear pressure below 230PSI and above 350PSI, while engaged.
Engine lube oil pressure below 30 PSI at cruising speed.
Engine fresh water temperature below 140F or above 205F.
Engine fails to start.
Uncontrollable overheating.
Metallic/non-metallic noise: metal on metal/fuel-knock/bearing/clicking.
Excessive shaft or engine vibrating.
Engine surging/over speed (over 50 rpm)
Loss of engine governor control.
Reduction gear fails to engage.
Fuel oil dilution 5% or above.
Water in lube oil.
Lube oil in jacket water.
-more than light sheen
-floating unmixed lube oil separated from the water.
Continuous electrical breaker trip.
Starting batteries won’t charge.
Steering system inoperative.
Engine motor mounts hardware loose or missing.
Excessive shaft packing leak:
-Packing leak while rotating trickle or steady stream.
-Packing leak while not rotating.
No electronic means of signaling distress.
Electronics won’t energize.
Any fuel oil or live oil dripping on hot surface( 400F or greater.)
Electrical arcing and sparking odor of insulation overheating.
Turbocharger lube oil supply line leaking onto hot surface or not fire rated /fire sleeved.
Return fuel oil line leaking in the vicinity of the turbo charger where the turbo attaches to the saddle.
Fixed CO2 flooding system inoperative, PLUS no portable fire extinguishers.
Emergency alarms inoperative.
Hull breach below waterline.
